At Brainchild Studios, we're all about the ladies -- especially when they are business bosses -- and we think the world should know more about Morgan Phelps, Founder & CEO at Colorful Connections.

Colorful Connections, founded in 2019, is a social enterprise that helps organizations reflect the diversity of their modern consumer market by connecting employers with skilled talent who represent the spectrum of diversity, supporting existing and emerging professionals in advancing their careers, and by helping business produce better work by creating collaborative teams that empower employees to unleash their full potential.

We had the pleasure of learning more about Colorful Connections from the founder herself. Read on to learn about Morgan's Milwaukee-based business and journey as an entrepreneur.

Why did you start your business?
Colorful Connections was started based on personal experiences of prejudice and bias in the workplace. I wanted to help underrepresented professionals find their voice and a sense of belonging doing the work they love. I wanted to be solution orientated to the problems I saw and help make a difference and create that change I wanted to see.

What are some of the biggest business challenges you've encountered as an entrepreneur?
Finding a good support network whether that be financial, community business support, or even finding the right folks to join the team.

If you could travel back in time, what advice would you give yourself before starting your business?
Perfection is the opposite of progress -- it's never perfect in the start-up world! Also, bad help is worse than no help -- taking the time to build a strong team is important but if you find a bad fit for your company, it's okay to admit that and make changes quickly and tactfully.

What is the one thing you're most proud of accomplishing in regard to your business?
Seeing my dream become a reality. Colorful Connections is creating solutions to problems that are often just talked about. This is really exciting.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs and business owners?
Build a strong support network. And self-care is critical!

What is next for you and your company?
Helping companies and people become better versions of themselves.

If you and/or your company want to become better versions, check out Colorful Connections's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion workshops and recruiting services!
